초록

The heating of high-Ni cathode materials under low O-2 partial pressures has generally been considered undesirable. Contrary to this general understanding, this study reports the postheating of LiNi0.925Co0.05Mn0.025O2 in an Ar atmosphere at 300 degrees C improves the cyclability and gas evolution properties, which can provide better durability and safety to Li-ion batteries. The improved performance is attributed to the reduction of free Li residues in the cathode. However, higher-temperature heating degraded the cathode performance, indicating a mild condition is necessary for obtaining the heating effect in Ar, while avoiding side effects, by preventing the heating atmosphere from becoming excessively reductive.
