Factors Influencing the Internet Addiction of Middle School Boys

This research aims at grasping factors that influence Internet addiction in a situation in which problems caused by the excessive Internet use of teenagers become more serious. The factors include the use motive of the Internet and stresses, which are psychological factors related with the use of the Internet. In particular, in order to look at the structure of variables and their relationship in detail the research grasps factors of three variables. Based on that, the research investigates Internet addiction and the effects of subordinate factors. The subject of the research is middle school boys. Since most of Korean high school students spend their time at their schools all day, except for some students, they cannot freely use the Internet. In addition, due to the influence of Internet games, boy students are more addicted to the Internet than girl students. In fact, PC bangs of Korea are full of boy students who do Internet games. Thus, middle school boys are selected as research subjects. For the survey, questionnaires were distributed to middle school boys in Incheon from Dec. 10th, 2007 to Dec. 14th, 2007, and they filled in the questionnaires. A total of 357 questionnaires were circulated, and 340 of them were used as final analysis materials. Factor analysis and regression analysis were adopted as analysis methods of the research.
