Development of Multiphysics Models for Hydrogen Steelmaking

초록

New steelmaking routes for decarbonization have received global attention. In this study, one promising route that combines a fluidized bed reactor with an electro-smelting furnace has been mathematically modeled to construct multiphysics-based models: An Eulerian-based multiphase flow model is applied to the fluidized bed reactor, while a VOF-based multiphase flow model is carried out for the electro-smelting furnace. This type of physics-based model has an advantage over data-driven models in designing new facilities that do not yet exist, as it can predict results without requiring existing data. The models currently under development are expected to be powerful tools for the development of novel processes and engineering facilities, as well as for evaluating the performance of new steelmaking routes using hydrogen.
