Photoactivity of Sol-gel Derived SiO2-TiO2 Nanoparticles

SiO2-TiO2 nanoparticles in the powder form were prepared by sol-gel method via (1) ball-milling of monolith and (2) filtering-washing of colloidal sol. The crystallite size of SiO2-TiO2 particles was controlled by calcination. The phases of samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique. The photoactivity of the samples was evaluated using UV-visible spectroscopy for dichlorobenzen. The photoactivity of the SiO2-TiO2 nanoparticles derived by filtering-washing process with calcination temperature 700℃ was the highest. This sample possessed the lowest crystallite size. The SiO2-TiO2 nanoparticles exhibited anatase phase of TiO2 along with a small proportion of rutile phase.
