초록
This paper explores telosemantic metaphor, showing that poetic language has an excellent place in cognitive linguistics and cognitive science. Lakoff and Johnson (1980) show that metaphor is an implement so ordinary that we use it unconsciously, suffuse our ideas, no matter what we are thinking about. Paul Churchland (1989) suggests that representations are states whose biological function is to guide behavior in ways appropriate to such conditions. Teleosemantics offers a powerful framework that promises to explain the nature of representation in nonrepresentational terms. It might seem unlikely that a simple appeal to biological functionality can account for the significance of truth. This paper takes sight to analyze the role of metaphors and teleosemantics in Robert Frost's “October.” In addition, this study suggests that critical thoughts in consilience raised questions as to our basic principles and gave them new ingenious theories.
