Poly(L-lactide) (PLLA) has attracted considerable interest from industry and academia because of its attractive properties. However, its brittleness and slow crystallization need be improvedb efore it can be used manufacturedi ndustriallyC. ellulose nanocrystals (CNs) are highly crystalline cellulose particles produced by acid hydrolysisf rom par t ial lyd issolvingc el lulosef ibr i ls.T he use of CNs as f i l lersh as advantagesb ecause of their exceptionallyu nique properties,s uch as high aspect ratio and low density. However, a large number of hydroxyl groups of the CNs surfacei nterruptth e homogeneousd ispersiono f these nanoparticlesw ithina typically hydrophobic polymeric matrix. ln this study, the surface of bacterial cellulose nanocrystals (BCNCs) were modified chemically using three different methods to provide improved adhesion with hydrophobic polymer matrices. The PLLA/BCNCS nanocomposites were prepared and their thermal and mechanical properties were examrned
