초록

When a ship with a wide immersed stern runs on a deeper draft than its design draft, forward-oriented wave breaking often occurs just behind the transom stern. The phenomenon accompanies large momentum loss and accordingly large hull resistance. The bottom profile form of the transom stern is one of the most important factors which affect the phenomenon, thouth not so much attention must has been paid to the part regarded as only a limited local part of a hull in many ships. In this paper, an analytical method to estimate the effect of the factor on stern wave resistance is developed at first. Then, model tests on typical bottom profile forms are conducted to verify the method and to get data for discussion of the effect. As a result, characteristics and mechanism of the effect are clarified.
