초록

Located at the east edge of Seoul, Imun-dong area, a chosen site, had been used for support facilities related to coal mining industry which was the main sources of energy in 1960s of Korea. As the use of coal energy began to be on the decline during 1990s, however, coal mining fields and briquette manufactories were closed and the Imun-dong coal mining fields have turned to be the railway vehicle base. Having been incorporated into Seoul, Imun-dong seems still isolated and left to be a ‘no man’s land’. The project intends to investigate the historical characteristics of the site area, to interpret the attributes of the Imun-dong context with regard to the program, and to propose a new type of subway station that acts as a socio-cultural link, namely a social platform. Key words: Urban edge, No Man’s land, Metro station park, Platform
