Collision Detection Culling through Categorization of Cubic Equation

We present a novel culling method that reduces the cost of continuous collision detection (CCD), based on categorizing cubic equations. We develop the theory from the fact that CCD is actually same as solving a cubic equation. This method can be easily applied and can be incrementally used with any other culling methods. We have implemented the algorithm and tested its performance on many cloth simulations. In practice, the proposed algorithm can reduce the number of false positives remarkably and speed up the overall performance of CCD.
