The domestically applied measurement-based pollutant emission calculation method has its own error factors and human/economic inefficiencies in the operation and management of the measurement system. In this paper, we review the current status and problems of the measurement-based pollutant emission calculation method. In addition, we recommend the combustion calculation method as an alternative and reviewed its implementation in Korea. The measurement-based method inadequately reflects the velocity distribution of the chimney and requires excessive measuring instruments. The Korean combustion calculation method showed increased errors as the hydrogen fraction in the fuel and the oxygen concentration in the exhaust gas increased, thereby making its current use unfeasible in managing pollutants when carbon-free fuels are gaining attention. This research team proposed an accurate and economical equivalent fuel combustion calculation method using the principle of mass conservation and recommends it for pollutant management.
