LAPIDARY GARDEN: A DESIGN PROPOSAL OF THE NEXT GENERATION CULTURAL SPACE BASED ON PERMANENT VALUE OF PUNG-NAP MUD FORTIFICATION

초록

Investigating the historical records along the Han River in Seoul, the project discusses how to regenerate the Pung-nap mud fortification(Pungnap toseong), the present left-over urban bulwark, to be a psycho-cultural field with its historical value. Disclosing the identity of the site as 'historical ground' while at the same time maintaining the relationship between the residential space invading the fortification and the historical ground, and assuming the evolutional border between persistence and permanence of the city as terrain vague, the study aims at adding the sense of place-time to the site. The main argument in the project is focused on how to suggest a program dealing with the excavated artifacts on the basis of the relationship among the historical fragments, and how to fill the missing parts of the Pung-nap mud fortification in order to succeed it to the next generation. Keyword: permanence, persistence, terrain vague, anonymous space, excavation
