초록
In the early 1970s, it was discovered that Al2O3-added carbide (for example, titanium carbide) could be produced as a cutting tool with superior hardness and fracture resistance. Newly developed self-prepagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) is a novel method to synthesize ceramic compounds by utilizing the exothermic, spontaneous reaction of elements. In this study, Al2O3-TiC composite were synthesized from two elements and an oxide(Al/C/TiO2) by SHS and then sintered by hot-pressing to evaluate their properties. The properties and characteristics of synthesized composites were compared with those of commercial powders.
