Synthesis of Poly(1-vinyl-3-alkylimidazolium) iodide and anion exchange of iodide for bis(trimethanesulfonyl)imide.

Several polymeric ionic liquids (PILs), a subclass of polyelectrolytes have been prepared by free-radical polymerization of ionic liquid monomers by using azonisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as a radical initiator. In order to enhance the solubility of PILs in nonpolar solvent, anionic exchange of bis(trimethanesulfonyl)imide (NTf2?) for iodide (I?) has been successfully adopted.
