Research on School Physical Education Facilities Modeling Using Future Prediction Techniques

Purpose: The procurement and improvement of school physical education facilities encourage students to actively participate in physical activities. Positive experiences and daily incorporation of physical activities contribute to the maintenance of physical, mental, and social health. This study aims to present the need for securing facilities and spaces for physical activities that can be accessed during school hours and daily life, and to propose concrete and future-oriented plans and models for it. Method: Twelve experts from various fields such as sports facilities, spaces, and education were selected, and five rounds of Delphi surveys were conducted, considering the population density and spatial range of Gyeonggi Province. The results suggested various solutions categorized into 1) large urban type (population-dense), 2) medium urban type (come-and-use service type), and 3) rural type (go-and-serve service type). Result: Firstly, in densely populated and space-constrained large cities, it was suggested that there is a need for efficient space distribution for school sports, leisure sports, and professional sports, and for facilities that are professional and systematic. To meet this, it was revealed that it is necessary to build future-oriented/built-in indoor gyms (sports centers) that apply information visualization theory to allow for extension of various sports. Secondly, in medium-sized cities with moderate population density and space, it was suggested that student sports centers should be built using idle spaces such as closed schools, providing a service that students and teachers can come and use. Through this, differentiated convergence experience programs from traditional school sports should be provided, encouraging links between in-school and out-of-school physical activities, and contributing to student skill development.
