Multi-Seession Cyberknife Surgery for Parasellar tumors adjacent to the Optic apparatus

Although the sterotactic radiosurgery has been introduced as a possible alternative to either surgery or conventional fractionated radiation therapy for the parasellar tumors adjacent to optic apparatus, unique radiation sensitivity of normal optic apparatus precludes singlesession radiosurgery from being used freely in many cases. Multi-session CyberKnife® surgery, introduced by the Stanford group, could be a good alternative in some of such cases, because it provides novel fractionation modality as well as maintaining good conformality. There are many reports supporting safety and effectiveness of multisession cyberknife radiotherapy and it could be standard therapeutic modality for peroptic lesion. Author will discuss about the basic concept of fractionated radiosurgery and review current published data with illustrating author’s series.
