Induction of apoptosis by heat alone or in combination with carboplatin in retinoblastoma cells

The induction of apoptosis caused by hyperthermia and carboplatin(CPt) alone or combined in WERI human retinoblastoma cells was studied with flow cytometry method. When WERI cells were heated at 42.5oC for 1 hour, about 25% of cells underwent apoptosis in 72 hours. An incubation of the cells in 50 uM of CPt for 72 hr caused apoptosis in 30% of cells. When cells were heated and maintained for 72 hours in 50 uM of CPt, about 60% of cells underwent apoptosis.
