A New MMI-Type Waveguide Polarization Spliter Using Photodefinable Birefrengence Polyimide

초록

A new polarization splitter based on the multimode interference with a birefringent material was proposed and fabricated using a photodefinable polyimide. The extinction ratios of the device designed optimally were ?1.33 dB and ?0.49 dB for TE and TM polarizations, respectively. The birefringence of the photodefinable polyimide was fitted with that of optimal design, because it could be controlled from 0.011 to 0.024 according to the film preparation condition
