A rare case of ectopic human infestation with an adult worm of fasciola hepatica in the mesocolon
초록
Purpose) We report an ectopic case of Fasciola hepatica (F. hepatica) infestation confirmed by the recovery of adult in the mesocolon. Method) A 56-year-old female was admitted to a hospital with discomfort in the left side of the abdomen. Abdominal computed tomography showed two abscesses in the left upper quadrant area and sigmoid mesocolon (Fig. 1A, B). The patient underwent transverse colectomy and anterior resection under the impression of abdominal abscesses of unknown origin. On surgical exploration, abscess pockets were found in the sigmoid and transverse mesocolon. Results) A leaflet-like worm found in the abscess pocket of the transverse mesocolon was diagnosed as an adult fluke of F. hepatica (Fig. 2). Histologically, numerous eggs of F. hepatica were noted with acute and chronic granulomatous inflammation in subserosa and pericolic adipose Conclusion) Rare cases in which the eggs or larva of F. hepatica were found in the intestinal tract of human were reported.
