Remarks at Plenary Session:Inpact of Technology on Globalization in Korea

초록

젨쟃lobalization means different things to different people.<br> 젨쟅n an ideal sens, it means "improvement of mutual understanding among all the peoples in this world". In reality and at least as we experience in Korea, "Westernization".<br> 젨쟋ajor factors bringing about globalization are technology in general and technology of communication in particular (transportation and communication).<br> 젨쟙hat Koreans are mostly and seriously concerned about is major negative affects of rapidly developing "communication technology" on Korean traditional way of thinking and behaviors, coming mostly from "commercialized use" of enormously enhanced power of communication technology, that is, Television Drama Programs, Action Movies, Video Films and Pornography Sites of Internets.<br> 젨? There can be, as we all know, many desirable globalizations:<br> 젨?Globalization that begets De-ethnocentrism,<br> 젨?Globalization that respects the cultural identity and pride of all the people involved,<br> 젨?Globalization that extends helping hands to the people of emerging nations,<br> 젨?Globalization that preserves the wells of creative potential of the human community,<br> 젨?and many-way or crisscrossing-way Globalization instead of one-way globalization.
