Experimental Investigations of Transient Impedances of Some Grounding Systems

In this paper investigations of transient behaviors of grounding impedances under unit-functional step currents for various ground rods, flat plate, mesh, rod with needles and counterpoise were carried out and analyzed experimentally. Also transient grounding impedances of a rod under impulse current waves have been measured as a parameter of the length of grounding leads. Trnasient grounding impedance characteristics were very different with shapes, geometries of ground electrodes and the length of the grounding leads. They showed frequency dependance as well as magnitude of current. It was found that the grounding impedance gives the inductive, resistive and capacitive aspects with the variation of the frequency.
