5G-NR Link Level Performance Analysis under 3GPP NR-NTN Channel Models

The Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) is investing a study on New Radio (NR) and solutions for NR to support non-terrestrial networks (NTN) in Rel-15 and Rel-16 respectively. In this paper, we analyze the link level performance of 5G-NR in terms of bit error rate (BER) and maximum achievable throughput under the 3GPP NR-NTN channel model. This analysis aims to examine the impact of different Modulation and Coding Schemes (MCS) and 3GPP NR-NTN Propagation channels on 5G-NR Physical Downlink Shared Channel (NR-PDSCH). The simulation results show that utilizing technologies such as MIMO and 3D Beamforming achieves better BER and maximum throughput performance under Clustered Delay Line (CDL) and Tapped Delay Line (TDL) channel models.
