Effect of environmental acidity on the cell cycle progression and apoptosis in irradiated cells

The potential influence of acidic intratumor environment on the radiation response of tumor cells is poorly understood. The study was designed to elucidate the effects of an acidic environment on the cell cycle progression, in particular, the progression through G2/M phase and onset of apoptosis in cancer cells. Material and Methods: HL-60 human leukemia cells and RKO.C human colorectal cancer cells carrying wild-type p53 and its subline RC10.1 cells deficient in p53 were used.
