Simple preparation of Iron oxide/polyheptazine Core-shell Flame Retardant and its application on the Silicone Rubber

초록

Silicone rubber (SR) has been widely applied in various fields due to its electrical properties, chemical resistance, high temperature resistance, and biocompatibility. However, SR restricts its application because of its high flammability. In recent years, halogen-free flame retardants have been attracted. Especially, nitrogen-based halogen-free flame retardants have been developed. N-rich materials can provide synergistic flame retarding characteristics with other flame retardant systems. Iron oxide could act as a catalyst of the char layer formation reaction during the combustion. Herein, N-rich polyheptazine was coated on the inorganic iron oxide surface by facile ball milling and heat treatment. Prepared filler-silicone rubber composite had high flame retarding performance. When 10 phr of the filler was added, the peak heat release rate (PHRR), total heat release (THR), and maximum average rate of heat emission (MARHE) value were decreased significantly. In addition, the smoke releasing was considerably decreased in flame retardant composite comparing to the neat silicone rubber.
