Effect of Mixture of Natural Plants on Hair Growth in C57BL/6 Mouse Alopecia Model
초록
Here we tested whether a mixture of natural plants (P-diet) is able to induce hair regrowth using C57BL/6 mouse alopecia model. The greater hair regrowth was observed in the P-diet group than the control normal diet group, evaluated by measuring hair regrowth with photographic evaluation and change in skin thickness and immunohistochemical staining. Black grains, such as black rice and black bean, are full of anthocianin and polyphenols that have an antioxidants effect. Especially black rice contains of rich selenium (Se) which also shows an antioxidants effect. Shitake (Lentinula edodes) reduces the level of cholesterol and blood pressure. Red yeast rice, made by fermentation of rice with Monascus purpureus, contains of Monacolin-K or Mevinolin (HMG-CoA Reductase inhibitor) that inhibits the biosynthesis of LDL-cholesterol and increases the synthesis of HDL-cholesterol. This result suggests that rich nutritive substance, like the mixture of natural plants (P-diet) containing higher level of vitamin A and B, antioxidants, and proteins, has a high potential to improve hair regrowth. Therefore, a mixture of natural plants can be tested further in a human study for the treatment of androgenic alopecia.
