DEVELOPMENT OF INTERNET-BASED PORT MAINTENANCE AND INFORMATION SYSTEM

For systematically recording and searching inspection and maintenance data over 10,000 port structures and breakwaters in Korea, an internet-based database management program called as POMIS (port maintenance and information system) has been developed with the support from the Korean MOMAF (ministry of maritime affairs and fisheries). The paper introduces fundamental functions of POMIS including database flow, input/output of inspection and repair data, inquiry of inspection and repair data, management of basic codes, and graphic view options of inspection data. POMIS has been designed to be linked to the existing Korean MOMAF web system for information on port facilities. POMIS also provides the procedures for the general inspection and in-depth inspection, condition assessment methods, and repair-retrofit methods for each type of port structures through HELP option. Database in POMIS can be easily accessed by local port authorities and some permitted users including construction and engineering companies. The structure of POMIS is explained with sample pictures of database-flow and record sheets.
