Top down and bottom up control of bacteria abundance and production in the Inchon coastal area

To investigate relative importance of bottom up and top down control on the bacterial populations seasonal and short term variations of bacterial aboudance and production,abundance of heterotrophic nanoflagellate and HNF grazing on bacteria togethor with environmental variables were investigated at intervals of 10 days or 1 month in Inchon coastal waters.The results indicated that bacterial aboudance was mainly controled;by resources supply as organic carbon during spring and atumn bloom(i.e.,bottom up), and by NHF grazing after non phytoplankton bloom (i.e.,top down).
