It has current interest to study nucleophilic substituion reactions at phosphorus atom. To this view point we have carried out series of works to study nucleophilic substituion reactions at phosphorus in this laboratory. Recently we reported series of works from our laboratory. In this work we have synthesised diphenyl Z-aryl phosphinates and N-diphenyl phosphinic anilines by reacting diphenyl phosphinic chloride with phenols and anilines respectively. In this work our objective is to compare the mechanism based on two types of leaving groups (C6H5O- and NHC6H5) of the same substrates. Computer controlled conductivity bridge are used for kinetic studies. We are measuring pseudo-first- order rate constants as well as second-order rate constants to establish the appropriate mechanism.
