Photonic Application of Organic-Inorganic Hybrid Materials, Prepared by Sol-Gel Processing Method

Alkoxysilane-based organic-inorganic hybrid materials containing with second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) property were synthesized by sol-gel processing. To synthesize an alkoxysilane precursor containing an organic chromophore, 3-glycidpropyl trimethoxysilane was reacted with an organic chromophore. A series of organic-inorganic hybrids of the modified inorganic precursor with various diol compounds was synthesized at 70℃ by sol-gel processing and heat-treated for thermal condensation and elimination of methanol as a byproduct. The thin films of these hybrid materials were prepared by spin coating on the ITO substrate and cured during their poling stage. Their patterned morphology and electro-optical properties were precisely measured.
