초록
We report performance of a direct modulated 1.3 µm-wavelength InAlGaAs/InP vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) for single-mode fiber (SMF) transmission at 10 Gb/s speed. The uncooled single-mode (SM) VCSEL was modulated at 10.3125 Gb/s with pseudorandom bit sequence (PRBS) of 231-1 data, and its modulated laser signals were successfully transmitted over a 10 km-long SMF at room temperature without any fails up to a bit-error-rate (BER) of 10-12. This VCSEL will be very much useful not only for ethernet applications to the 10 Gb/s BASE-LR (long range) standard of the IEEE 802.3ae recommendation but also for many other applications, such as optical version of USB 3.0, high-speed DVI, high-speed fiber channels, and other high-definition multimedia interfaces (HDMIs).
