초록

Titanium dioxide (TiO<inf>2</inf>) nanoparticles (NPs) have significant advantages in photocatalytic applications due to their ultrahigh surface area. Among the various synthetic methods available for producing TiO<inf>2</inf> NPs, this chapter emphasizes solution-phase synthesis, which offers precise control of size and shape while enabling cost-effective mass production. This chapter provides a detailed, case-by-case discussion of synthetic techniques, including sol-gel processes, hydrothermal methods, and hot-flask reactions, focusing on the manipulation of size, morphology, and crystallographic phases. Furthermore, the preparation of ultrasmall TiO<inf>2</inf> NPs with high size selectivity using dendrimer cages is explored. Mechanisms of crystal growth and facet control are systematically analyzed, depending on the influence of pH, reaction parameters, capping agents, and structure-directing additives. © 2026 WILEY-VCH GmbH.
