Experimental investigation of installation damage for geogrids

초록

Installation damage tests were performed to evaluate both damaged and undamaged geosynthetics specimens. Accelerated creep tests at 20, 35 and 50°C were performed at various loading levels to determine the maximum short-term strength of the geosynthetic reinforcements. The long-term performance of drawntype, warp/knitted-type and junction bonded-type membranes, composite-type geogrid, and strip-type geosynthetic reinforcement was calculated from the reduction factors. The total factor of safety for the geosynthetic reinforcements was calculated from the experimental results of these reduction factors and the long-term design strength of the geosynthetic reinforcements was also calculated. The reduction factor due to creep deformation was found to affect the longterm performance. Among the geosynthetic reinforcements studied, the strip-type reinforcements and composite-type geogrids showed excellent long-term performance.
