On a summer day in the mid-1970s, in the middle of my graduate thesis research, I had a chance to visit Clarkson College (now Clarkson University) in Potsdam, New York, with Prof. Richard K. Chang. We were going to meet Prof. Milton Kerker, a world-renowned authority in theoretical studies on light scattering from aerosols and monodispersed particles. Prof. Chang had much interest in studying the same in experiment and I was at the center of that experiment. So, Prof. Chang proposed a trip to Clarkson. We started out early in the morning because the drive to Clarkson would take a whole day, mostly along the country roads, valleys, and rivers.
