Preparation of EVOH/MWNT nanocomposite particles using a direct saponification method

Poly(ethylene-co-vinylalcohol)(EVOH)copolymersareeasilypreparedbysaponificationofpoly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate)(EVA).They have been widely used as food packages, biomedical and pharmaceutical industries due to their excellent gas barrier properties, high resistance to oils, good mechanical strength and harmlessness to health. They also have significant potential for polymeric filler and inorganic filler surface modifier due to their hydrophilicity, as a consequence of the -OH side groups. In this study, EVOH/multi-walled carbon nanotube(MWNT) nanocomposite powders were prepared by incorporating MWNT in an EVA/toluene solution and precipitating in ethanol/KOHsolution. MWNT was functionalized electronbeam irradiation process(EB-MWNT)inairat800, 1,000 and 1,200KGy doses. Morphology, tensile properties and thermal properties ofthe prepared nano-composite particles have been evaluated.
