By constructing structurally colorized images on metals with femtosecond laser-induced periodic structures (fs-LIPSSs), we demonstrate the color variations of fs-LIPSSs with a broad angular range of illumination incidence can be used for optical authentication. © Optica Publishing Group 2023, © 2023 The Author(s)
