A Hybrid Dual-Path Buck Converter Relaxing Duty Cycle Control for Li-ion Battery Applications

This paper presents a hybrid buck converter achieving a wide voltage conversion ratio (VCR) range from 0 to 1 with the single-mode operation for Li-ion battery applications. It operates in three phases using seven power switches, a flying capacitor, and a single inductor. The proposed power stage forms a dual current path to reduce inductor current and conduction loss. The proposed architecture also eases low-duty-cycle control. Simulation results show a 96.1% peak efficiency at VIN = 3.3?V, VOUT = 1.8?V, and ILOAD = 300?mA. It achieves a 427.4-mV undershoot and 136.7-μs settling time in light-to-heavy load transients.
