A STUDY ON THE ARCHITECTURAL FORM INTERVENING IN THE CONTEMPORARY URBAN SPACE FOCUSED ON THE COMPARISON WITH ALDO ROSSI AND REM KOOLHAAS

An Italian architect, Aldo Rossi asserts that the city has permanence through the form of architecture that produces collective memory combined with urban events. However, his notion was sometimes criticized by latter architectural theories on the contemporary city which quickly creates new and various characteristics. A Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas, in particular, criticizes architects following an archetype of the architectural form and contradicts permanency of the city. Nevertheless, his architectural form also has positive relationship with urban space because there is intervention between the internal events and urban events through the surface. For such a reason, we can see that the form of architecture acts a role to contain collective memory on urban events in the contemporary city as well.
