Fabrication and Property of Wet-spun Polyacrylonitrile/Polybenzoxazine Blend Polymer Fiber and its Derived Carbon Fiber

In conclusion PAN/PBZ blend precursors were fabricated into filaments suitable for carbonization improving their previous limitation to nonwovens. P90B10 fibers produced under spinnable conditions exhibited higher tensile strength from reduced cross-sectional area. PBZ enhanced the thermal stability of the precursor, lowering exothermic heat release in stabilization and improving char yield in carbonization. The resulting PAN/PBZ carbon fibers showed a tensile modulus similar to commercial products and about 89.1 % of their tensile strength, indicating applicability beyond nonwovens [9-12].
