A Sub-Multiplex Function for Providing the Mobile Multimedia Service

The recent interest of mobile communication is trending voice service to various mobile data service. IS-95, IS-95A, IS-95B specifications of TIA/EIA provide the multimedia service by a multiplex layer. However, the present specifications just supports the multimedia service with multiconnection by the multicall, cannot support with multiconnection by a single call. Thus, in order to provide the multimedia service with multiconnection by a single call that may be demanded later, there is inconvenience that must add special protocols each multimedia services. This paper proposes a sub-multiplex layer that supports the multimedia service by a single call requiring the multiconnection. This sub-multiplex layer is activated by the indication of an application program and at this time an existing multiplex option is maintained. And the sub-multiplex layer multiplexes voice and mobile data, upper the multiplex layer. Thus the voice and the mobile data are transmitted through single voice path which was already set up. This function can provide the mobile multimedia service by a single call, is compatible with the existing network model.
