Hardening and Hydroxyapatite Formation of Bioactive Glass and Glass-Ceramic Cement.

초록

Several glasses and glass-ceramics have been prepared to be used as bioactive cements. The self-setting of the cement when mixed with phosphoric acid is due to the develoment of dicalcium phosphate dihydrate. The setting time of glass cements was much longer than that of the glass-ceramics cements. The slower setting in the glass cement is due to the slower leaching of Ca2+ inons from the glass. The DCPD transformed into a hydroxyapatite when the cement was soaked in simulated body fluid. No hydroxyapatite was observed when the glass-ceramics containing apatite crystal was soaked in SBF even for 4 weeks. The compressive strength of the cement is strongly dependent on the conversion behavior of DCPD to hydroxyapatite.
