Dynamic amplification factor (DAF) is a major indicator to describe the dynamic influence on a cable bridge due to the cable rupture. This factor has been used for the design of cable-stayed bridges. However, since it can be obtained only through analytical calculations, the analytical results of DAF may be highly dependent on the assumed time interval for the cable rupture of each cable. To represent the rupture of an actual cable in an analysis, the release of tensile force in a cable is usually modeled as a ramp force. Thus, the time interval for the loss of tensile force can be a key parameter in the dynamic analysis. The study investigates its effects on the dynamic response of a cable-stayed bridge through simulation studies on two different types of cable-stayed bridges.
