A SnS2-2D Material as High Performance NO2 Sensing with Ultrafast Response and High Sensitivity

The emission of NO2 (nitrogen dioxide) gas has been increased by the rapid development of modern industry. In order to construct ubiquitous environmental monitoring system based on Internet of Thing (IoT), it is important to detect NO2 at low concentration with high sensitivity and fast response. Recently, the new two dimensional (2D) materials proved advantages for ultrafast sensing due to planar crystallite structure, large surface-to-volume ratio and low electronic noise. Among them, tin disulfide (SnS2) provided a superior sensing performance as ultra-sensitivity down to ppm level, ultra-fast and good stability for NO2 detection. In this work, SnS2-2D materials were synthesized by High Energy Ball Milling (HEBM) method and crystal structure and morphology was characterized by XRD and TEM. Resulting in the NO2 sensor using SnS2 nanomaterials enables to detect wide range from ppb to ppm level with ultrafast response and high sensitivity at optimal operating temperature of 250 oC. At 250 oC, the sensor showed the response (S) of over 2000%, the response/recovery time are 6/40 seconds with 10 ppm concentration of NO2 gas. In addition, the sensor has good repeatability and linearity.
