Fibromatosis coli has long been recognized as a peculiar benign fibrous growth of the sternocleidomastoid muscle that usually appears during the first weeks of life, in 0.4% newborns, often associated with muscular torticollis. The lesion is in most cases self-limiting and never behaves aggressively. On clinical examination, it can be difficult to recognize and as a consequence may be the target for fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy. The typical findings of aspirates are slender spindle-shaped fibroblasts without atypia, degenerated striated muscle fibers, and stromal collagen. We experienced a case of fibromatosis coli which were diagnosed by FNA cytology. The patient was one month-old male neonate suffered from a right neck mass which was incidentally found. He was born in normal spontaneous delivery at full term. MRI and CT scan revealed a 2.5cm sized ill-defined lobulated soft tissue mass at right posterior neck. Under the clinical impression of malignant tumor, fine needle aspiration was performed from the neck mass. Cytologic finding showed scattered bland-looking fibroblastic cells and degenerated atrophic striated muscle fibers. This cytologic finding is highly suggestive of fibromatosis coli, which was confirmed by histologix examination.
