A geostrophic adjustment model of surface cooling-induced water conversion at the shelf edge

초록

The conversion from shelf to deep waters induced by surface cooling across the steep continental slope is analysed using a simple geostrophic adjustment model. It is found that the amount of cooling, the shelf depth and initial current velocity of the deep ocean are major factors determining the amount of water conversion.
