The shape optimization of dome structure in combined loading conditions

초록

A dome structure is composed of many complex structural components which require sufficient strength, stiffness and stability throughout its service life. In order to design the dome structure with the required strength, many different types of design factors and their effects are considered. Many different forms of analyses are also needed. But in this study, local stress peak is selected to the main factor to minimize its effect because the failure of mechanical structures under service conditions is most frequently due to fatigue loading and occurs at sites of high stresses often caused by the presence of notches. Therefore, a design which is characterized by such a locally inhomogeneous stress distribution is always dangerous and therefore far from being an optimized design. In this reason, the purpose of this study is to find out the shape optimization of the dome structure based on main design factors allows the reduction of localized stresses by using commercial finite element code (the author used MSC/NASTRAN)
