Hot Deformation Behavior of (SiCw+SiCp)/AA2124 Composites

The hot deformation behavior of (SiCw+SiCp) (15 vol. %) reinforced AA2124 hybrid composites was investigated by hot torsion tests. The composites with various SiCw: SiCp ratios of 1 : 1, 1 : 2, and 1 : 3 were fabricated by the powder metallurgy. The hot restoration of the composites deformed at 300 - 400 ℃ under 1.32×10-3/sec strain rate was dynamic recrystallization, while at the temperatures higher than 450 ℃, dynamic recovery was responsible for the hot restoration of the composites. It was found that the composite with SiCw: SiCp = 1 : 1 showed the highest flow stress (52 MPa) and failure strain (375 %) at 450 ℃ and 7.94×10-2/sec.
