경사면 광섬유 단면과 격자 결합기를 이용한 실리콘 광도파로의 광섬유 커플링

초록

We introduce numerically calculated optimum coupling conditions for parallel fiber coupling (PFC) to silicon waveguide (SW) with inclined fiber end (IFE) and grating coupler (GC). The conventional vertical fiber coupling (VFC) method to Si waveguides is not suitable for a compact device packaging, and has a disadvantage of critical angle alignment dependency of the vertical fiber coupling to the grating surface. The proposed PFC allows a compact device packaging, and provides a large tolerance advantage of the optical alignment over the grating surface. The 3-dB alignment tolerance of fiber over the GC for the PFC is 8 μm while that for the VFC is 5 μm.
