Performance Evaluation of H-Type VAWT Rotor by CFD Technology

초록

This paper presents performance evaluation of H-type vertical-axis wind turbine of aerodynamically impulse-type rotor. The transient simulation of the proposed wind turbine was undertaken optimized for various conditions using finite-volume, Reynolds-averaged, Navier-Stokes (RANS) commercial solver CFX 11. A transient rotor-stator model with sliding mesh scheme was used along with k-e RNG turbulence model to compare performance characteristics of the wind turbine. The simulations of models were conducted for different tip-speed ratios keeping rotor angular speed constant by varying inlet wind speeds, which may result in analogy issue related to different Reynolds numbers from those of experimental data. But no significant Reynolds number effect is observed on the performance. The results of simulations show that CFD model can predict performance of the proposed H-type vertical axis wind turbine of impulse-type rotor qualitatively and more accurately by 3D model.
