Image Enhancement for Plasma Display Panels

Improvement of image qualities on plasma display panels (PDP) is one of the most important issues to be solved. This paper summarizes several techniques to enhance the image qualities on PDP. Pulse number modulation for representing gray levels on PDP generates dynamic false contours. In order to reduce the dynamic false contours, techniques for optimization of subfield patterns and gray level conversion are presented. The light intensity curve of the PDP is close to linear within the normal operating range. Gamma correction applied to PDP results in poor gray level reproduction in dark areas. Techniques to improve gray level reproduction in dark areas are described.
