Human exposure to BPA and BPS from products has been studied extensively. Traditional methods for detecting these pollutants in the human body are invasive and fail to pinpoint their source. Our new fingerprint analysis confirms the transfer of BPS/BPA from receipts to human skin within 20 seconds. Handling receipts with 100-300 μg of BPS/BPA transfers 20-40 μg to the skin, which can still be toxic. A fingerprint map using mass spectrometry imaging visually demonstrates the absorbed BPS/BPA distribution. This groundbreaking study represents the first analysis of fingerprints to unravel the incorporation mechanism of emerging pollutants, offering an efficient and non-invasive environmental forensic tool to determine the amounts and sources of hazardous substances.
