Experimental Study on the Elevator Door Re-opening due to the Pressure Difference in Buildings

초록

An elevator has become an essential element in the modern architectures, by means of transporting passengers and luggage efficiently. However, the pressure difference in buildings causes various problems in elevator operation such as functional disorder, noise, and equipment failure. This study investigates the limit of pressure difference that causes re-opening while the elevator door is closing. The mock-up test modelling air flow in an elevator hall was performed, and we found the pressure limit for the tested door. Two cases were set - the top floor elevator and the lobby floor elevator in heating mode. The pressure limit were 50 Pa for top floor and 40 Pa for lobby floor. The results show the elevator doors on the lobby floor were more vulnerable to an increase in pressure difference than on the top floor.
